City Awarded $1 Million Grant for Urban Forestry

The City of Raleigh was awarded a $1 million grant from the U.S. Forest Service. This grant marks the importance of urban forests in quickly growing cities like ours. Raleigh's urban forest includes a mix of tree types and green spaces. This helps keep our air and water clean, conserves energy, and provides a habitat for wildlife.

This $1 million grant will help the City of Raleigh with the following:

• Community Impact: Enhance, protect, and expand the urban tree canopy in Raleigh. This will bring more trees and benefits to our community
• Environmental Equity: Boost our climate resiliency and canopy cover infrastructure in disadvantaged neighborhoods
• Economic Benefits: Investing in urban forest development yields economic returns.

This grant will help us care for existing trees, remove dangerous trees, and plant more in the community. These efforts align with the City's Strategic Plan initiatives to mitigate heat islands, manage stormwater, and promote climate resilience.

The grant, awarded to the Parks, Recreation and Cultural Resources Department, will be administered by the Arbor Day Foundation. The City is excited to use this grant to improve green infrastructure in Raleigh.
