On April 27, 2024, State Police of Greenwich arrested Theodore C. Smith, 35, of Poultney, VT, for Burglary in the second Degree, a class "C" felony.

Diane M. Reed, 33, of Poultney, VT, was also arrested for Criminal Possession of Stolen Property in the fifth degree, a class "A" misdemeanor, and Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the seventh degree, a class "A" misdemeanor.

On April 27, 2024, at about 3:00 p.m., Troopers received a complaint that a residence in Dresden, NY, had been burglarized. While conducting the investigation, Reed answered the door at a neighboring home. During the interview, Troopers observed some of the items reportedly stolen from the victim's home inside her residence, along with Smith. Further investigation determined Reed and Smith had been unlawfully residing at the location. Smith allegedly confessed to stealing the items from the victim's residence on April 25, 2024.

Both Reed and Smith were arrested and transported to SP Granville for processing. At the time of her arrest, Reed was found to possess a controlled substance. Reed was issued an appearance ticket returnable to the Dresden Town Court on May 16, 2024, and released. Smith was transported to the Washington County Correctional Facility to await arraignment.
