Violent and non-violent crime decrease in North Charleston

NCPD is pleased to announce that crime rates have decreased in our city for both violent and non-violent crimes. In the first four months of 2024, there has been a 10% decrease in violent crimes. Although the number of murders has gone up to six, which is one more than the same period last year, the number of aggravated assaults has decreased by 13%.
Additionally, the number of aggravated assaults with firearms has decreased by 4%. We are delighted to see a significant decrease in the number of rapes, which has gone down by 35%. However, there has been an increase in robberies by 16%, with business robberies going up by 60% and robberies of persons going up by 11%.
We have taken a strong stance against illegally or unlawfully carried firearms and are proud to report an increase of 2% in gun arrests. On the non-violent crime front, there is an 8% decrease overall, with burglaries down 11% and business burglaries down 40%. DUI arrests have gone up by 41%, and narcotics arrests have gone up by 11%. Our officers remain committed to working around the clock to keep the peace in our city.
