Construction is in Terrace is provincially regulated through the BC Building Code and locally through the City of Terrace's Building Bylaw No. 1810-2004.
The City's current building bylaw hasn't been updated in 20 years, however, so a new one is being proposed.
Many legislative and code amendments have occurred since the current bylaw was implemented in 2004. Some sections are somewhat ambiguous, which can make following and monitoring regulations difficult. And fees have not been increased.
Check out an overview of the proposed changes in the new Building Bylaw.
City Council must review and approve all bylaw changes. The proposed new Building Bylaw passed first, second and third reading by Council on Monday, September 9.
The plan is for the new bylaw to be reviewed by Council and passed and finalized in mid-to-late October 2024.
