TRAFFIC ADVISORY EXTENDED: Temporary Road Closures on Franklin Avenue at North Villere Street

NEW ORLEANS - The City of New Orleans today announced that beginning Monday, Nov. 6, at 7 a.m. Department of Public Works (DPW) construction contractor, Command Construction Industries, LLC, will be performing sewer repairs on North Villere Street that will require a closure to river-bound travel lanes on Franklin Avenue in order to accommodate oversized construction vehicles.

During this time, river-bound parking and travel lanes on Franklin Avenue will be subject to intermittent closures between North Robertson and Urquhart streets. The street will re-open to traffic each day at 5:30 p.m. (see map).

Public safety is our top priority; signage and traffic control measures, such as barrels and fencing, will be onsite to direct drivers and pedestrians. Please move all vehicles off the street before Monday, Nov. 6 at 7 a.m. DPW asks that residents please adhere to 'no parking' signage on the streets. Vehicles parked in these zones will be ticketed and towed. The road is scheduled to reopen Tuesday, Nov. 7.

This temporary disruption of services is part of the $18.5 million St. Roch Drainage Upgrades joint infrastructure project with DPW and the Sewerage and Water Board of New Orleans (SWBNO).

Once complete, residents will experience an overall improved quality of life, as the project will improve subsurface drainage capacity between local streets and trunk lines and install green infrastructure, such as retention/detention basins and bioswales. This work is part of the FEMA funded Hazard Mitigation Grant Program (HMGP)'s Leveraged Gray/Green Infrastructure projects and is scheduled to be completed in the fall of 2024.
