BASF’s Cellasto celebrates production milestone in North America

WYANDOTTE, MI, July 22, 2021 - BASF's Cellasto® recently reached a significant milestone in North America, producing its 1 billionth part at its manufacturing facility in Wyandotte, Michigan. This year, Cellasto celebrates 60 years of production globally.

Under the brand name Cellasto, BASF develops, manufactures and sells a wide range of components made from special microcellular and compact polyurethane elastomers to the automotive industry and its suppliers. Today, 85% of all automakers use Cellasto components.

'Reaching the 1-billion-part mark in North America on our 60th anniversary speaks to the dedication of our employees and the quality of our production facilities,' said Bjoern Kophstahl, Vice President, Global Business Management for Cellasto. 'We will continue to work toward our next milestone using the latest technology to produce innovative, quality products tailored to meet the needs of our customers.'

In 1986, BASF began Cellasto production in North America when the company began molding microcellular polyurethane jounce bumpers for the world's leading automobile manufacturers. BASF has continuously expanded its manufacturing portfolio and now produces a variety of finished parts that contribute to the driving experience by improving durability and providing a smooth, quiet ride. Additionally, Cellasto components and solutions are used for several other industrial and non-automotive applications such as elevator bumpers, washing machine isolators and high speed printer applicators.

Cellasto has production locations worldwide in North and South America, Asia, and Europe to reliably supply to customers across the globe.
