New tunnel crossing Yangcheng Lake to be completed in 2027

Xingji Tunnel, a new tunnel running beneath the Yangcheng Lake, is scheduled to be open to traffic in 2027 after 45 months of construction. Then, it will shorten the car ride from the core area of Xiangcheng District to the Huxi (west of the Jinji Lake) CBD area of Suzhou Industrial Park (SIP) to only 10 minutes.

The Xingji Tunnel project has a total length of 6.821 kilometers. The main line, which is 3.172 kilometers long, starts from Linjia Road in Xiangcheng District, runs along Jixue Road, and passes through the Western Yangcheng Lake southward to Yangchenghu Avenue where it connects to Xinggang Street in SIP. The 3.649-km branch line starts from Xiangcheng Avenue and runs southward to join the main line. When being completed, the tunnel, as part of the network of urban main roads, is expected to greatly relieve the traffic pressure of Shanggao Road and Loujiang Expressway and help promote the integrated development of Suzhou city.
