What is happening?
The Chicago Department of Water Management (DWM) and NPL Construction Company will be replacing water mains along Clark Street.
Where is this happening?
The project will begin at Clark and Dickens and will finish at Clark and St. James. Work will be done for two blocks at a time.
How long will this take?
The project will begin in February and should finish by early May. It should take about a week and a half, as long as there are no utility conflicts, to work on each two-block segment at a time.
Will there be parking restrictions on Clark Street?
There will be parking restrictions within and bordering the section of the street being worked on during weekday work hours (generally 7 am-4 pm). There will typically be parking restrictions for two blocks at a time.
What if I have an emergency regarding my water during business hours?
You should call either the 43rd Ward office at (773) 348-9500 or the DWM Office of Public Affairs at (312) 744-6635.
What if I have an emergency regarding my water outside of business hours?
You should immediately call 311 and request text updates for the service request to stay apprised of the work's completion. If you would like to receive regular email updates about the project, please go to BuildingANewChicago.org to register for the WaterALERT program. Simply enter your name, email address and the project identification number (1601152).
How will this affect my business?
Parking will be limited on Clark Street during business hours as work is being done on your particular section of Clark. This work will be done for about a week and half in front of your business. A lane of traffic in each direction will be kept open at all times. Sidewalks will be kept open at all times. You should always be able to access your business.
Anything else I should know?
If you have a particularly sensitive alarm system you should talk with your security system service provider as the vibrations from the work being done underneath the street may cause your alarm to go off.
Will my water be shut off during the project?
Your water will be shut off at some point, and you will be notified in advance. The Alderman's office will be reaching out to businesses who rely heavily on water to coordinate when the water shut-off will occur.
