Zagreb: event on blue economy and bilateral cooperation

The Italian Embassy in Zagreb has scheduled a high-level event on the topic of the blue economy for tomorrow morning, in cooperation with the Croatian Chamber of Economy.

The event will focus on possible bilateral cooperation geared towards achieving mutual benefits in the use of sea-related resources; on the one hand, it will delve into the issues of scientific and technological tools aimed at the preservation of marine resources and biodiversity and, on the other, into the shared tools and strategies that can be adopted to achieve sustainable management and exploitation of the resources of the common Adriatic Sea. Particular emphasis will be placed on the thematic projects envisaged within the 2021-27 INTERREG Italy-Croatia Programme.

The event will be attended by leading experts from both Italy and Croatia, as well as international organisations, including CNR, ISPRA, OGS, the Dubrovnik Institute for Marine and Coastal Research, the Ruger Boskovic Institute, and the World Bank.

Last year's signing of the agreement between Italy and Croatia on the delimitation of their respective exclusive economic zones gave a further boost to bilateral cooperation in the blue economy sector.

This issue will be discussed at the next session of the Bilateral Committee of Ministers between Italy and Croatia, which will take place next October in Zagreb, and at the Trilateral Cooperation in the Upper Adriatic meeting between Italy, Croatia and Slovenia.
