Half marathon and 10 mile road race taking place in Liverpool on Sunday 17 March

Around 9,000 runners are to take to the streets of Liverpool on Sunday 17 March for the 30th anniversary of the BTR Liverpool Half Marathon and ninth staging of the BTR Liverpool 10 Mile Road Race.

Both races start at 9am from the Pier Head, and roads around the route will be closed before and during the race, with people advised to allow extra time for their journey as diversions will be in place.

The 13.1-mile half marathon route takes runners through the city and into Sefton Park, taking in sights along the way including Royal Albert Dock Liverpool, Liverpool Cathedral, and Museum Of Liverpool, before returning to the Pier Head for a grandstand finish.

Roads affected include Upper Parliament Street, Princes Road, Belvidere Road, Ullet Road, Greenbank Drive and Aigburth Drive.

First staged in 1994, the half marathon is one of the longest established races in the region and is a highlight in the North West race calendar. The 8,400 runners include participants from across the country and globally.

Sunday's event also includes the ninth BTR Liverpool 10 Mile Road Race, which has 600 people taking part.

BTR Race Director Alan Rothwell said: "This is a milestone event in a vibrant city full of landmarks, all set against the backdrop of a world-famous waterfront. Liverpool is iconic.
