A $8.9 million resurfacing project that will give motorists a smoother ride on more than nine miles of Interstate 79 in Greenwood and Union townships, Crawford County is scheduled to start next week.

The project will include restoring 9.68 miles of highway from the Mercer County line to the Route 285 interchange. Milling and paving will also be done at the Exit 141 on and off ramps.

Additional work will include guiderail updates, drainage improvements, and minor bridge rehabilitation on two different structures south of the Geneva Swamp.

Work is expected to begin Monday, April 15, weather permitting, and be completed in October 2024.

Motorists will encounter long-term lane restrictions and should be alert for traffic pattern shifts.

Drivers should anticipate travel delays during active work hours.

The contractor is Lindy Paving, Inc. of New Galilee, PA. The contract cost is $8,913,940.30, which is to be paid entirely with federal funds.
