City prepares for next phase of critical infrastructure maintenance at six locations

The City's Department of Utilities will soon begin maintenance work on its flood control system, which is considered critical infrastructure.

This maintenance is consistent with the critical infrastructure work previously conducted by the City and is projected to span several weeks for completion.

The work is scheduled for several creeks in the city, including Laguna, Jacinto, Strawberry, Lower Morrison, and Upper Morrison creeks. Additionally, maintenance will conducted at a ditch near I-80 in the northern area.

The work performed will involve repairing fencing and levee slopes, clearing debris to prevent flooding, and vegetation management.

Utilities staff are working closely with the City Manager's Office, City Attorney's Office, and the Department of Community Response to ensure the safety and well-being of City staff and individuals camping in impacted areas.

The Department of Community Response will be coordinating with local service providers to perform outreach and connect people with services.

"Our focus is on ensuring the safety of individuals experiencing homelessness in the area during this essential infrastructure maintenance," said Brian Pedro, director of the City's Department of Community Response. "Through collaboration with our partners, we will work to provide essential support and resources. We recognize the importance of the Department of Utilities in maintaining safety and flood prevention, and we're committed to supporting their work."

Below is a schedule of when work is expected to take place:
