Classical Arts: June Sales fetch over €3.6M

1.3M: success for the Asian Art sale
On 13th June, the Asian Art department presented over 200 lots, including a chapter dedicated to the art of China and Southeast Asia, featuring three private collections. The sale was a great success, fetching over €1.3M.

Among the sale's best results, an important mirror from the Qianlong period sold for €157,440, eight times its low estimate, and a pair of celadon porcelain vases from the Qing dynasty, sold for €196,800, also well above its estimate.

A rare bronze tripod ritual vessel from the Shang dynasty fetched €107,584, while a large, white-glazed porcelain "dragon" basin, reflecting the apogee of this technique in the Kangxi period, sold for €87,904.

Portrait Miniatures: bidding battles and pre-emption
On 14th June, the Old Master & 19thCentury Art department sold the largest collection of miniatures offered in France since that of Félix Panhard in 1975. The sale doubled its overall estimate, fetching €487,400.

Among the 102 lots on offer, the Portrait of François II, King of France, by the painter François Clouet, reached the highest bid, fetching €44,608, more than seven times its estimate. The work will join the collections of the Musée du Louvre following its pre-emption.

The Presumed Portrait of Armand-Frédéric-Ernest Nogaret by the Swedish miniaturist Pierre-Adolphe Hall fetched €39,360 after a telephone bidding battle.

The last part of the collection will be auctioned on 28th September.

More than €1.8M for the Furniture & Works of Art sale
On 14th and 15th June, the Furniture & Works of Art department held a highly successful prestige sale, achieving a total of over €1.8M. Including several private collections and lots of solid provenance, the sale showcased major pieces from the European decorative arts panorama, including furniture, silverware, porcelain and sculpture.

Among the highlights of the sale was a Louis XVI period mechanical games table by the talented cabinetmaker David Roentgen, which fetched €236,160, while a meuble d'entre-deux forming secretaire, stamped by Martin Carlin, fetched €104,960, well above its initial estimate. Also, worth mentioning a suite of ten chairs a la reine a chassis stamped by Louis Cresson and from the prestigious Patino-Ojjeh collection sold for €112,832.
