Mayor Bowser to Announce AED Rebate Program with DC Fire and EMS to Help Increase Cardiac Arrest Survival Rates

(Washington, DC) - On Wednesday, April 10 at 11 am, Mayor Muriel Bowser and DC Fire and EMS will announce a new initiative to improve access to Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs), which increase the chance of surviving a cardiac arrest. Through an incentive program that will provide rebates for organizations that purchase AEDs, the District is taking steps towards closing the gap between racial and geographical inequities with cardiac arrest survival rates and AED accessibility. The program will offer rebates of up to $400 per AED for small businesses, places of worship, nonprofits, condos, and cooperative apartments.
This announcement comes as Mayor Bowser commits to key investments in DC Fire and EMS' FY25 budget, including funding of a new paramedic school as well as continued investment in new fire apparatus and safety equipment for Firefighters/EMTs and Paramedics.
