Frome Gateway – Have Your Say on the future of St Jude’s

Views are being sought on proposals to transform the land either side of the River Frome in St Jude's, known as Frome Gateway, into a new neighbourhood that delivers much needed housing, workspaces and environmental protections for the area's natural habitats.

The draft Frome Gateway Regeneration Framework outlines a vision and set of principles to inform and coordinate development and regeneration proposals across the area to ensure it is fit for the future.

A consultation launched today seeks resident's views on the proposed vision, strategy and priorities to guide the long-term transformation of Frome Gateway.

The vision is that over time the area will become a high-quality residential neighbourhood that brings together a greater mix of uses to better meet the needs of the local community and the city. Celebrating and strengthening community, improving quality of life, re-connecting to the natural environment and safeguarding against the impacts of climate change are key parts of the vision of this plan.

The framework sets out a vision for about 1,000 new homes, a range of new workspaces, restoring the River Frome as a thriving wildlife corridor, increasing the amount of the green space and providing safer streets for walking and cycling.

Marvin Rees, Mayor of Bristol, said: "The Frome Gateway area in St Jude's is in need of investment. As we work to address our city's challenges of the housing crisis, social and economic inequality, and the climate and ecological emergencies, we've been working with the community to shape a vision for the future for this area.

"The vision is that by 2035, the delivery of new and improved homes, workspaces, and community and public spaces has transformed Frome Gateway to better meet the needs of the local community and the city.

"Central to achieving this vision is creating new opportunities for local people, enhancing quality of life and public health, and proactively responding to climate change. We must also provide employment space for businesses to thrive and bring about quality training and employment opportunities for local people".

To understand and better meet the needs and priorities for the area, Bristol City Council has been working with the local community and businesses since 2019 to define local priorities for change and shape the draft regeneration framework.

Frome Gateway is located in St Jude's, Lawrence Hill. The area is east of Bristol City Centre and is bordered by Newfoundland Way/M32 to the west, Pennywell Road to the east, Houlton Street/Wade Street to the south and to the north by Easton Way.

To complete the consultation survey visit the Frome Gateway project website:https://fromegateway.co.uk/. The consultation will run until midnight on Monday 4 December 2023.

Following engagement with the community and local stakeholders throughout the development of the Regeneration Framework, comments received during the consultation will be used to make final changes before it goes to Cabinet in early 2024 for approval. The framework will then be used to guide planning applications and investment in the area over the next 15 years.
