HKU Department of Sociology and the Hong Kong International Academy Against Corruption sign MoU to promote academic research in anti-corruption

The Department of Sociology of the Faculty of Social Sciences at the University of Hong Kong (HKU) and four other prestigious universities including the School of Government of Peking University, the Institute for Discipline Inspection and Supervision of Tsinghua University, the Faculty of Law of the University of Macau, and the Division of Public Policy of The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Hong Kong International Academy Against Corruption (the Academy).

The Academy would strive to strengthen cooperation with them through experience sharing and data exchange, as well as enhancing the training for anti-corruption talents.

Around 600 distinguished guests from local and international communities gathered at the ICAC Building on February 21, 2024 to witness the inauguration of the Hong Kong International Academy Against Corruption (the Academy), which marked a new chapter of Hong Kong's anti-corruption work and ICAC's unwavering commitment to take the anti-corruption cause to new heights as the graft fighting organisation welcomed its golden jubilee.

Professor Tarani Chandola, Head of Sociology, HKU Faculty of Social Sciences, Mr Ricky Yau, Deputy Commissioner, ICAC, signed the MoU. The signing was witnessed by Professor Max Shen, Vice-President and Pro-Vice-Chancellor of Research, HKU and Mr Danny Woo, Commissioner, ICAC.

The MoU Exchange Ceremony was officiated by Professor Tarani Chandola and Mr Ricky Yau; witnessed by the Hon. John Lee, Chief Executive of HKSAR, Mr Danny Woo and Professor Xiang Zhang, President and Vice-Chancellor, HKU, during the ICAC 50th Anniversary Reception and establishment of Hong Kong International Academy Against Corruption.

Professor Tarani Chandola expressed his enthusiasm for the collaboration. He said: "The Memorandum of Understanding between the Hong Kong International Academy Against Corruption and the Department of Sociology will facilitate greater research and training collaborations. Our partnership with the newly established Hong Kong International Academy Against Corruption will enhance the international research profiles of both our institutions."
