Dr Vladimir Orlic Has Meetings in Georgian Parliament

As part of his official visit to Tbilisi, the Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia Dr Vladimir Orlic had meetings in the Parliament of Georgia.

In addition to the meeting with the Speaker of the Parliament of Georgia Shalva Papuashvili, the National Assembly Speaker also met with the Chairman of the European Integration Committee Maka Bochorsihvili and the Head of the Parliamentary Friendship Group with the Republic of Serbia Irakli Mezurnishvili.

The officials confirmed the good and traditionally friendly relations between Serbia and Georgia, based on the two peoples' historical, cultural and religious ties, as well as on the principled position of mutual respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the two states. In that regard, the National Assembly Speaker thanked Georgia for its firm position of non-recognition of so-called "Kosovo" and support regarding the fake state's attempts to become a member of international organisations.

The topic of Serbia and Georgia's European integration was also on the agenda of the talks. The officials confirmed their mutual support and willingness to intensively cooperate and exchange experiences on this issue. "You can count on Serbia's full support, in every sense," said the National Assembly Speaker.

In the course of the meetings, the officials expressed willingness to improve cooperation in all areas of mutual interest, especially in the economic sphere, as well as interest in intensifying the political dialogue. They also expressed satisfaction with the parliamentary cooperation, primarily with the dynamics of top-level meetings. The National Assembly Speaker reminded his hosts of the Partnership Agreement the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia and the Parliament of Georgia had signed in 2019. "In the spirit of the Agreement, we continue to work together on intensifying cooperation, which the engagement of the two parliaments' friendship groups greatly contributes to," said Dr Orlic.

The National Assembly Speaker informed all of his hosts in the Georgian Parliament in detail about the current situation in Kosovo-Metohija and the position that the most important issues for Belgrade remain the formation of the Community of Serb Municipalities, the security of Serbs in Kosovo-Metohija and respecting our people's basic human rights, which Pristina and Albin Kurti personally brutally violate on a daily basis. "Belgrade continues to pursue the state policy of peace and stability for all. In our country, this policy is led by the President of the Republic Aleksandar Vucic, for which he had received the mandate, convincing support and trust of the people, and it is being implemented by the National Assembly and the Government of Serbia. It is this policy, around which we stand united, that has in previous years made it possible for Serbia to record historic successes and results in a variety areas, first and foremost in the economy, infrastructure," said Dr Orlic.

The meetings in Tbilisi were also attended by the Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia and Chairperson of the European Integration Committee Elvira Kovacs and the Head of the Parliamentary Friendship Group with Georgia Dubravka Filipovski, who affirmed their personal determination to improve overall interparliamentary cooperation.
