Kids run, 5K and half marathon events take place Labor Day weekend

The Rock 'n' Roll Washington running event is less than a month away, taking place for the first time in Bellevue Sept. 3-4. Several departments at the City of Bellevue are working alongside event organizers to make the event a smooth, fun and valuable annual activity that showcases Bellevue as a destination city and welcomes a world of runners, musicians and spectators.

An information page has more details on how the community can get involved and enjoy the event as it winds its way through Bellevue streets, including opportunities to volunteer in a variety of ways. Live musical acts stationed throughout the half marathon course will feature a diverse mix of local and regional talent. There are also 5K and kids' running events that start and end at the event headquarters in Downtown Park.

Race organizers have outlined the various road closures and detours that will be required to keep runners and spectators safe during the weekend, which kicks off with an expo on Friday and Saturday and the running events on Saturday and Sunday. The 5K begins at 7 a.m. Saturday and the half marathon starts at 6:30 a.m. Sunday (road closures begin at 5:45 a.m., except the start and finish line areas, which close at 2 a.m.), and the running events should wrap up by noon each day. Bellevue police and transportation staff will be monitoring the entire event to ensure safety for all participants, spectators, community members and travelers in the course area over the weekend.
