Montana State men’s lacrosse advances to program’s first-ever national title game

BOZEMAN - For the first time in its history, the Montana State University men's lacrosse team will play in a national title game this weekend in Round Rock, Texas. They will play the University of St. Thomas on Saturday, May 11, at 1:15 p.m. MST.

The Bobcats entered the Men's Collegiate Lacrosse Association Division II national tournament ranked No. 4 of the 16 teams competing. They defeated No. 13 Tulane University in a first-round game on Monday by a score of 14-3 before beating the No. 5-ranked University of Rhode Island 13-6 in a quarterfinal game on Tuesday.

On Thursday, MSU played a redemption match against Air Force Academy in the semifinal. In April, the Bobcats lost to Air Force 13-12 in the championship game of the Rocky Mountain Lacrosse Conference tournament in Provo, Utah. Air Force entered the national tournament as the top seed, but MSU posted a well-rounded masterclass in the rematch, with a 10-goal streak in the second half en route to a 21-4 rout of the RMLC champions.

With the victory, the MSU team - a club program founded in 2003 that is supported primarily by player dues and community donations - advanced to its first-ever appearance in a national title game with an overall record of 19-2 on the season. The Bobcats will play No. 2 University of St. Thomas on Saturday. The championship game can be streamed through the MCLA's 2024 Stream Pass, which can be purchased on the event website.
