Seattle Wins 2024 All-America City Award

Seattle, WA - The City of Seattle is proud to announce that it has been honored with the prestigious All-America City Award by the National Civic League. This recognition celebrates Seattle's commitment to strengthening democracy through innovative, community-driven efforts and effective engagement with historically underserved communities.

"Winning the All-America City Award is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our community members who tirelessly strive to make Seattle a more inclusive and equitable city," said Mayor Bruce Harrell. "This award highlights our ongoing commitment to ensuring every resident has a voice in their government, particularly those who have been historically underserved. Together, we are building a stronger, more vibrant community."

"This award is a clear message that our efforts to engage with diverse communities are making a significant impact. The establishment of the Indigenous Advisory Council and our partnership with community-based organizations through the People's Academy for Community Engagement (PACE) are just a couple examples of how we are working to address critical issues and empower all residents," said Director Jenifer Chao of the Seattle Department of Neighborhoods. "We are honored to be recognized for our innovative approaches and look forward to continuing our work to strengthen civic engagement."

Seattle's presentation to the National Civic League highlighted various initiatives, including the creation of the Indigenous Advisory Council to influence policies affecting Indigenous populations, and PACE's collaboration with community-based organizations to tackle issues such as generational wealth and environmental justice within Native, Black, Latinx, and AANHPI communities.

Additionally, Seattle Public Utilities' new business plan, developed through a collaborative process facilitated by community liaisons, underscores the City's commitment to inclusive decision-making.

The All-America City Award, presented by the National Civic League, recognizes ten communities each year for their outstanding civic accomplishments. This year's award emphasized the importance of local action and innovation in strengthening democracy. Finalist communities presented their initiatives to a jury of civic leaders through dynamic and creative formats, showcasing the diverse and impactful ways they are addressing critical issues. This is the third time Seattle has won the award.

Seattle's achievement serves as a blueprint for other cities striving to enhance civic engagement and fortify democracy. The City remains dedicated to fostering an inclusive environment where all voices are heard and valued, embodying the spirit of the One Seattle vision.
