Media Statement: Gloria Bosman a Loss to Music Industry, Committee Chair

Parliament, Wednesday, 15 March 2023 - The Select Committee on Education and Technology, Sports, Arts and Culture has lamented the passing of musician Gloria Bosman, only aged 50 on Tuesday.

The Chairperson, Mr Elleck Nchabeleng, said the committee sends its heartfelt condolences to the family, relatives, friends and the entire music fraternity.

"It is with sadness that today South Africa wakes up to mourn one of our jewels in the jazz music genre. By the standards of jazz music Gloria was still very young, yet by what she had achieved over the years she had become a veteran."

"We are saddened as the committee but we call on all South Africans to remember Gloria, the flamboyant and buoyant performer, musician, and A grade artist. The music industry has lost a distinct voice."

Gloria Bosman reportedly passed on at home, after a short illness on Tuesday. She shared the stage with, among other luminaries, Sibongile Khumalo, Concord Nkabinde, Oliver Mtukudzi, Sipho "Hotsticks" Mabuse, Hugh Masekela and many others.

Mr Nchabeleng said Gloria earned the status of being a legend without breaking a sweat on stage and that her sharp voice was stuff of legends and awards, which she collected en mass.
