One Injured, One Arrested After South Park Shooting

Police are investigating an early Saturday morning shooting in South Park that left one man injured, and led officers to arrest one man and seize a firearm.

At 2:00 a.m., a man called 911 and said he had a gun at a bar in the 8600 block of 14thAvenue South. The caller would not answer additional questions from call takers and disconnected. When call takers called back, another man answered and said someone had been shot.

Police arrived and found a man in the 1200 block of South Cloverdale Street with a gunshot wound to his leg. The victim was uncooperative with officers and declined to participate in the investigation at that time. Seattle Fire Department Medics transported the 29-year-old man to Harborview Medical Center in stable condition.

As police were investigating at the scene, they noticed an agitated man - who had created a disturbance in the area of the investigation - was carrying a firearm in the front pocket of his sweatshirt. To maintain the safety of the scene, officers took the gun from the man and found the weapon's serial number had been obliterated. As it's unlawful to possess a firearm with a destroyed serial number, officers arrested the man and discovered he also had a warrant for assault. Police booked the 24-year-old suspect into King County Jail for unlawful possession of a firearm and his warrant.

Police will continue to investigate this shooting and whether the man arrested at the scene had any role in the incident.
