Deputy Foreign Minister Wojciech Gerwel took part in the 7th round of the Polish-Chinese Strategic Dialogue

On April 18, 2023 the Undersecretary of State at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Poland Wojciech Gerwel and the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of China Deng Li held the 7th round of the Polish-Chinese Strategic Dialogue in Beijing.

Polish Deputy Minister also met with the State Counselor, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of China Qin Gang and the Deputy Director of the International Department of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China Qian Hongshan.

The Strategic Dialogue covered a wide range of bilateral and international issues. The ministers exchanged views on issues of strategic importance for both countries, with particular emphasis on the situation in Eastern Europe and East Asia. Deputy Minister Gerwel underlined the importance of the continuation of efforts focused on cessation of the Russian hostilities against Ukraine, establishment of lasting peace and restoration of Ukraine's territorial integrity. He also expressed his expectations towards China, as a permanent member of the UN Security Council, to uphold the provisions of the UN Charter. Polish Deputy Minister noted as well the deteriorating security situation in Eastern Europe and pointed out the stabilizing role played by the NATO in this regard.

Both sides underlined the importance of maintaining regular political contacts, in particular at the level of heads of state.

Deputy Foreign Minister Gerwel emphasized the key role of the sustainable economic cooperation, beneficial to both parties, for the further development of our bilateral relations. In this respect he mentioned the need of a wider access to the Chinese market of goods such as agricultural and food products as well as cosmetics. Both sides noted the potential of further cooperation in the area of logistics.

With respect to the China-Central and Eastern European countries cooperation mechanism the Polish side emphasized its complementary character in relation to the Polish-Chinese bilateral relations and EU-China relations, as well as underlined the need to reflect on the effectiveness of this format of cooperation.
