PANGKALPINANG -- Changes in environmental ecosystems and lack of education about the importance of endemic fish can threaten the extinction of endemic fish in an area. For this reason, PT Timah Tbk works to support the Bangka Belitung Endemic Fish Foundation The Tanggokers program to educate and conserve endemic fish.

PT Timah Tbk again handed over assistance to the Bangka Belitung Endemic Fish Foundation The Tanggokers to improve facilities and infrastructure for education and conservation of endemic fish.

Supervisor of the Bangka Belitung Endemic Fish Foundation The Tanggokers Suwarlanda said, this is the second time The Tanggokers has received assistance from PT Timah Tbk.

"In 2021 we also received assistance from PT Timah Tbk for the construction of mini hatcheries, ponds, and other facilities. The facilities built are for education and conservation," he said.

Meanwhile, assistance in 2023 will be used to build additional ponds, build hatchery fences so that visitors who come are safer and more comfortable.

"Initially, the hatchery fence still used wood and this collapsed, so we want to make it from a safer material. We will continue to make a roof and we will add to the construction of a tarpaulin pond and a turtle educational pond," he said.

According to him, currently, many people and researchers have come to The Tanggokers Secretariat on Jalan Fatmawati, Housing Legavista 4 Blok I No 8. The visitors who come are usually to see and get to know endemic fish as well as receive education from them.

In fact, they will also conduct research with the University of Airlangga and Leeds University England about the diversity of Babylon's ichthyofauna, from fish to animals that live in the waters.

"Our foundation also focuses on education, research, development, and conservation of ichthyofauna diversity in Bangka Belitung waters. Because there are several fish endemic to Babylon whose status is endangered and critical," he explained.

His party also appreciates PT Timah Tbk's CSR which has supported their efforts to preserve Bangka Belitung's endemic fish so that they can be maintained.

"Thank you PT Timah Tbk for the support and this is already good. We hope this can continue. Not only for facilities and infrastructure assistance, but we also hope to be involved in PT Timah Tbk's conservation and reclamation program," he said.

He added Bangka Island has seven types of endemic fish, such as natural betta fish, red wrasse, bedu ginger, pungor ginger, gourd igik, kelik sulong, and small freshwater anchovies.

"Currently we are trying to reproduce it in the hatchery with the aim of restocking it in nature and keeping live specimens so they don't become extinct," he said.
