inaugural stopover: The Ane Maerks, methanol-powered container ship, calls at Le Havre

Christened last January in South Korea, the new flagship of the Maersk shipping line is making its maiden voyage in Northern European ports. The first methanol-powered container ships in a series of 18, the Ane Maersk called at Le Havre on Saturday, this week-end.

At 349 meters long and 54 meters wide, this vessel has a deadweight of 189,500 tons and a capacity of 16,000 TEU.

In addition to its unique design, with the gangway positioned well forward of the ship, the Ane Maersk is among the first large container ships designed to run on methanol. 17 other units of this type are due to follow in the shipping line's fleet.

For HAROPA PORT, this call marks a milestone in the port's ambition to become France's carbon-neutral, multi-fuel port.

Pour mémoire, le méthanol est un combustible créé à partir de dioxyde de carbone et d'hydrogène. Il apparaît comme un carburant alternatif au fuel pour le secteur maritime.
