CORPUS CHRISTI, TX - On Thursday, July 22, Mayor Paulette M. Guajardo will announce the J22 Radio-Controlled Sailboat Regatta winner. This unique event is part of the 2021 J22 World Sailing Championships underway this week on Corpus Christi Bay. Three smaller versions of the J22 were built for radio-controlled racing. There are only three of these 1/6 scale versions in existence.

Twenty-seven boat captains from the full-size J22 sailboats entered a raffle to compete using the smaller sailboats. The final race will be on Thursday at 6:00 p.m. in the boat basin next to the Corpus Christi Yacht Club. Immediately following the race, the winner of the unique regatta will receive one of the J22 radio-controlled models as first prize. Proceeds from the event will benefit the Corpus Christi Sailing Foundation.

'I am excited to see this unique boat race taking place in our gorgeous bay. This event further illustrates the versatility of our marina and the types of events we can host,' said Mayor Paulette M. Guajardo.

This year's event is hosted by the Corpus Christi Yacht Club.
