Cumberland Island National Seashore to close in preparation for Severe Storm

(St. Marys, GA)-In preparation for a severe winter storm and the subsequent impacts to Camden County, Cumberland Island National Seashore will close to the public at 4:45 p.m. on Monday, January 8, 2024. A mandatory evacuation is in place. All campers, visitors, staff, and volunteers must depart the island by 4:45 p.m. on Monday, January 8, 2024. The last boat departing the island is at 4:45 pm from the Sea Camp dock.

The park will remain closed through Tuesday, January 9, and will reopen on Wednesday, January 10. The ferry service will resume on Thursday, January 11, 2024.

The managed hunt schedule for January 9-11, 2024, has been canceled due to severe weather.

Cumberland Island is the largest barrier island off the coast of Georgia, encompassing more than 36,000 acres of maritime forests, salt marsh and beaches.
