Donation to help meet immediate and long-term community needs in Florida and North Carolina
PITTSBURGH, Oct. 4, 2024 - The PNC Foundation has announced a $1 million commitment to disaster relief and recovery efforts in areas of Florida and North Carolina impacted by Hurricane Helene.
The PNC Foundation will donate $500,000 to the American Red Cross to help meet immediate needs for food, shelter and other relief services in communities affected by the storm, including Florida's Gulf Coast region and Western North Carolina. An additional $400,000 will be allocated to local nonprofit organizations as long-term recovery needs in these communities are identified. The PNC Foundation will also match employee gifts made to the American Red Cross through Nov. 30, 2024, up to a total of $100,000.
"Hurricane Helene has left behind catastrophic destruction, from loss of homes to loss of lives, and the impacts continue to climb," said Richard Bynum, PNC chief corporate responsibility officer. "Our thoughts are with all of our affected employees and communities as we take this opportunity to support relief and recovery efforts."
In the wake of the disaster, PNC Bank deployed three mobile branches to North Carolina to provide essential banking services where traditional branches may not be available or accessible and waived all ATM surcharge fees to allow access to cash. All Florida branches are currently open and available to assist customers. Customer assistance regarding service availability in areas impacted by the storm can be found on the PNC Update Center.
"We are thinking of everyone affected by Hurricane Helene, especially those close to home in the Carolinas," said Weston Andress, PNC regional president for Western Carolinas. "With the full impact of this disaster still unknown, we'll continue to collaborate with our local partners to offer resources and support to meet the needs of our community."
"We're proud to be part of this strong, resilient community and our hearts are with all our fellow Floridians as we recover from this devastating storm," said Chad Loar, PNC regional president for West and Central Florida. "As we gain a better understanding of its impact in the days and weeks ahead, we'll keep working with our local leaders to provide our support and assistance where it's needed most."
