Four Men Arrested For Cheating

The Police have arrested four men, aged between 33 and 53, for their suspected involvement in a series of cheating cases.

On 21 and 25 April 2024, the Police received two reports from victims alleging that the four men had sold them counterfeit phones. They would approach their victims to explain that they were short of cash. They would then propose to sell various branded phones to the victims at a discounted price. The phones were sold at between $180 to $400 per piece. Victims would subsequently discover the phones to be counterfeited after authenticating it at authorised retailers.

Through follow-up investigations, officers from Clementi Police Division established the identities of the four men and arrested them separately on 26 April 2024. Several mobile phones and accessories that were purportedly counterfeited were seized. Their personal mobile devices were also seized for further investigations.

The four men will be charged in court on 27 April 2024 with the offence of cheating under Section 420 of the Penal Code 1871. The offence carries an imprisonment term of up to 10 years and a fine.

The Police would like to advise members of the public that when making purchases, if the price is too good to be true, it probably is. Purchase only from authorised sellers or reputable sources, especially for high-value items.

The Police take a serious view against any person who may be involved in scams and frauds, and perpetrators will be dealt with in accordance with the law.
