CASC provides emergency support for forest fire rescue in China's Sichuan Province

BEIJING, Mar. 19 -- A forest fire broke out in Baizi Village, Xiala Town of Yajiang County of Garze Xizang Autonomous Prefecture in southwest China's Sichuan Province on March 15, 2024. At around 3:00 pm on March 16, the fire spread rapidly due to strong wind, causing optical cable interruption and communication damage in some areas. Multiple units under the China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation (CASC) responded in emergency and provided timely assistance to the impacted region.

China Satcom, a main subsidiary of CASC, instantly launched the contingency plan. It deployed communication satellite resources, sent professional engineers to the fire sites, set up a stable and efficient satellite communication network, and opened emergency public network base stations and Internet access services, providing satellite communication guarantee for the on-site command and disaster relief work.

Meanwhile, China Centre for Resources Satellite Data and Application maneuvered the on-orbit satellites, and controlled multiple high-resolution satellites and environmental monitoring and disaster reduction satellites to observe the impacted region.

As of March 18, 2024, abundant satellite images and data on the post-disaster areas had been provided, based on which the departments and units, including the National Disaster Reduction Center of the Ministry of Emergency Management, the Forest Fire Early Warning and Monitoring Information Center, the Land Satellite Remote Sensing Application Center of the Ministry of Natural Resources, etc., made emergency judgements and decisions on the disaster relief.
