New Government.fi website coming soon

The new Government.fi website will launch on Wednesday 24 April. The redesigned website will offer a more harmonised user experience and visual image and will be easier to use, especially on mobile devices. In connection with the launch of the new site, the separate Prime Minister's Office website will close.

Government.fi is the main channel of communication for the Government. The website provides topical and general information on the Government's activities, including press releases issued by the ministries, public information about government decisions and updates on the implementation of the Government Programme. The website is available in Finnish, Swedish and English.

The overhaul of the website involved revising the concept, renewing the user interfaces and developing the website navigation. The redesign paid particular attention to usability, accessibility and smooth maintenance. The new website also makes more extensive use of the Government's visual identity.

"The objective of government communications is to provide a fact-based overall picture of the Government's activities, objectives and decision-making. Online communication plays an important role in this respect, and the new website supports this work better than before. Now that the redesign of the user interface and layout is complete, we will focus on developing the content so it better serves its purpose," says Senior Specialist Tuomo-Pekka Arhi, who headed up the project.

In connection with the redesign, most of the contents of the Prime Minister's Office website were transferred to the Government.fi website. Once the new website is launched, the separate website of the Prime Minister's Office will be discontinued. This means it will no longer be possible to subscribe to press releases from the Prime Minister's Office at vnk.fi. The Government also launched a new video service in April, where its press conferences can be viewed live and as recordings. The next step in developing online communications will be redesigning the Government media service.
