Raising the Transgender Flag at City Hall

On March 29th, City officials and community partners raised the Transgender flag in honor of Transgender Day of Visibility on March 31.

"I know that for a lot of trans folks, standing on the steps of local government is not a comfortable experience. In many places, including some not far from here, it's openly dangerous. But today, and every day, I am here to say as the leader of the City Administration: Cincinnati stands with the trans community. We see you, we welcome you, and we are here for you," said City Manager Sheryl Long.

The trans flag consists of five horizontal stripes - two light blue stripes, two pink and a white stripe in the center.

"During my time in office, I have ensured that each year we raise the Transgender flag on March 31st in recognition of Transgender Day of Visibility. This year, the importance of this act cannot be understated. The passage of HB68 has led to suffering, confusion, anger, and pain for too many Ohioans. Transgender Day of Visibility is about empowering those in our community who are trans, nonbinary, queer, or questioning to live in their truth," said Councilmember Reggie Harris. "This day is about ensuring all Cincinnatians feel authentic and safe in who they are. The raising of the Transgender flag is a symbolic gesture that is paired with work we and our allies across the state are doing to directly improve the quality of life for our residents. That work includes funding for training for regional employees on mental healthcare practices that are gender-affirming and in accordance with HB68 along with ensuring City employees can seek the care they need. We are hard at work to improve the lives of all Cincinnatians."

The City was joined by representatives from the Trans Advocacy Council, Cincinnati Pride and the City of Cincinnati's LBGTQIA+ Employee Resource Group.
