CBK has published the statistics of the Balance of Payments (BoP) for January 2024 in accordance with the publication calendar. (https://bqk-kos.org/statistikat/serite-kohore/).

The balance of payments by January 2024 was characterized by a current account surplus in the amount of EUR 12.4 million, showing a decrease of 1.4% compared to the same period last year (EUR 12.6 million was the surplus by January 2023).

Balance of trade in goods by January 2024 marked a deficit in the amount of EUR 289.2 million, which is 9.4% higher compared to the same period of the previous year. The export for this period amounted to EUR 60.9 million, showing a decrease of 2.3% compared to January 2023 (EUR 62.3 million by January 2023). Whereas, the import of goods reached the amount of EUR 350.1 million, presenting an increase of 7.2% compared to January 2023 (EUR 326.7 million by January 2023).

Account of services, which constantly has a positive balance, by January 2024 amounted to EUR 142.9 million, which is 1.9% lower compared to the same period last year.

Primary income by January 2024 marked a positive balance of EUR 21.9 million, which in the same period last year had a negative amount of EUR 11.1 thousand.

Secondary income remains the main contributor to mitigating the current account deficit. By January 2024, this account marked a positive balance of EUR 136.8 million, which represents an increase of 4.1% compared to the same period last year (EUR 131.4 million by January 2023).

Remittances are the main category within secondary income, the amount of which by January 2024 was EUR 86.4 million, representing an increase of EUR 2.4 million or 2.8% compared to the same period of 2023.

Assets in financial account by January 2024 marked a negative balance of EUR 40.2 million, while financial liabilities marked a positive balance in the amount of EUR 15.2 million.

Direct investments in Kosovo by January 2024 amounted to EUR 67.2 million (EUR 66.1 million by January 2023), while direct investments outside Kosovo amounted to EUR 15.4 million (EUR 10.3 million euros by January 2023).

Reserve assets by January 2024 marked a positive balance of EUR 15.2 million, while in the same period of the previous year this balance was EUR 43.0 million.
