Hoyer Statement on the February Jobs Report

WASHINGTON, DC - Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (MD-05) released the following statement today on the February Jobs Report:

"In his address last night, President Biden emphasized that the state of our Union is strong. The February jobs report released this morning indicates that our economy is too. A historic 14.9 million jobs have been added to the economy under President Biden's leadership. In February alone, 275,000 jobs were created. America has now seen 37 months of consecutive job growth since President Biden took office in January 2021. The unemployment rate has stayed historically low, under 4%, for more than two years now, as our economy has grown and inflation has dropped from 9% to 3%.
"The economy is resilient, unemployment is low, and Americans are seeing the positive effects of Democrats' historic Investing in America Agenda. That shouldn't be a surprise, though the Republicans who falsely claimed that America was in the grips of a recession may see it that way. Indeed, from 1949 to today - from Presidents Truman to Biden - the economy has performed consistently better under Democratic presidents than Republican ones, but the progress we've seen in recent years is particularly impressive.
"Rest assured, the Biden-Harris Administration and House Democrats are not done working on behalf of the American people. We will continue to strengthen the middle class and create more opportunities for American workers, businesses, and families to get ahead. House Republicans, by contrast, have proven to be more interested in infighting than governing. Despite the dysfunction that House Republicans have created, Democrats will continue Investing in America so that families and workers in every corner of the country have the tools they need to Make It In America."
