Cost conscious travellers heading to Camden in central London can now stay in the very heart of Camden Town following the opening of the first hub by Premier Inn hotel on Camden High Street last Friday (28th July).

The new 80-bedroom Premier Inn London Camden hotel which is operated by Whitbread, the UK's largest hotel company, occupies a prominent position at the junction of Camden High Street and Delancey Street directly opposite the famous Blues Kitchen pub.

It the first hub by Premier Inn hotel to open in Camden and offers guests a contemporary style of accommodation with technology enabled 'compact' bedrooms and a through-the-day 'Lounge' F&B offering, fitting for Camden's quirky and eclectic neighbourhood.

Three new social rented homes to the rear of the property and a ground floor retail unit were also created by the prominent new development.

Opening its doors with a new 30-strong team under the leadership of hotel manager Thomas Stoneham [pictured with team], the hotel is expected to accommodate close to 40,000 guests per year based on the occupancy of other hub by Premier Inn hotels in central London - leading to an anticipated annual boost to Camden's economy of £3.8 million per year.

Whitbread worked closely with employment officers at Camden Council to promote the new vacancies to Camden residents, with 75% of the new team joining Whitbread for the first time and four team members enrolling on the company's well-regarded apprenticeship programme.

Louise Woodruff, property acquisitions manager for Whitbread said:

"Working with our development partner Demar Holdings we have created a bright and bold new addition to Camden High Street which we're all very proud of. The hotel is sure to be a hit with our guests given its super location, and I am especially pleased that we have been able to deliver three new homes for social rent and create 30 new job opportunities for the borough through the development. For me, it is a model for what hotel developments can deliver for Camden and I'm hoping we will be able to repeat the success elsewhere in the borough in due course."

While most people in the UK are familiar with the Premier Inn brand, hub by Premier Inn hotels are a different concept and to date there are just 16 in the UK - all in prime city locations. The hotels feature 'compact' bedrooms, roughly half the size of a Premier Inn bedroom, which are enhanced by useful technology such as Smart TV's and clever lighting.

Hot on the heels of the new Camden hotel, new hub by Premier Inn hotels are scheduled to open later this year in Marylebone and at Paddington Station in spring 2024 - with further locations planned at Farringdon, Moorgate, Putney and on the Strand.

Within the borough of Camden, Whitbread is looking to secure new locations for its hub by Premier Inn and Premier Inn brands at Swiss Cottage, Kentish Town, Tottenham Court Road, Euston, and Kings Cross.
