McFarland Park Conservation Center & Hickory Grove Park Master Plan Open Houses

Story County Conservation (SCC) will be hosting two public open houses for public input on master planning currently taking place at two of its most popular parks. Please note topics are different at each location's open house event. During this planning process, it is important to gather input from the community.

These open houses are part of a comprehensive planning process. Representatives from the Story County Conservation Board and staff, as well as design consultants will be present to talk attendees through the plans to date, answer questions, and collect feedback.

MCFARLAND PARK CONSERVATION CENTER MASTER PLAN OPEN HOUSE

Master plans tentatively include repurposing the existing Conservation Center into an environmental education center and the addition of a newly-proposed conservation center. This new facility would be the future gateway to the outdoors for SCC at McFarland Park, as well as ensuring this location as a worthy destination for years to come.

An open house event to gather public input will be held Monday, Mar. 27 from 5:30 - 7:30 P.M. at the Ames Public Library in the Farwell T. Brown Auditorium. Attend this open house and be a part of planning for Story County's future and share your thoughts!

Please note this event's conversation will focus exclusively on the current master planning at McFarland Park.

HICKORY GROVE PARK MASTER PLAN OPEN HOUSE

Hickory Grove Park (HGP) is also going through this master plan process. The same SCC working group and consultants have been developing a layout at HGP featuring an additional modern RV campground, cabins, updated lodges, a new tent camping area, beachfront improvements, and accessibility improvements. The long-term goal is to make the best quality recreational opportunities that connect with a wide variety of park users, while also protecting and improving this park's attractive natural resources.

An open house event to gather public input will be held Wednesday, Mar. 29 from 5:30 - 7:30 P.M. at the Colo-NESCO Middle/High School. SCC invites you to stop by and share your thoughts and opinions on these proposed ideas.

Please note this event's conversation will focus exclusively on the current master planning at Hickory Grove Park.
