Our nation commemorated the 100th anniversary of the 19th Amendment of the U.S. Constitution on August 26, 2020. Certification of the 19th Amendment, granting the women a right to vote, was a benchmark moment for American democracy and an important milestone toward women's equality.

With a local celebration by the Palos Verdes Peninsula Library District cancelled in 2020 cancelled due to the pandemic, the City of Rolling Hills Estates, in partnership with the Palos Verdes League of Women Voters, hosted a belated celebration of this momentous event by designing and dedicating a Centennial commemorative plaque on City Hall grounds, which was unveiled on Saturday, August 26, 2023. The dedication honors the 103rd anniversary of the 19th Amendment granting women the right to vote.

Through this dedication "we remember those who worked tirelessly for women's suffrage and recognize our modern-day local women leaders. Our goal is to remind the younger generation of the importance of learning about our history and the sacrifices made for the freedoms that we often take for granted," stated Rolling Hills Estates Mayor Britt Huff.

The ceremony, which included many local leaders, was led by RHE Mayor Huff whose remarks shared history of the 19th Amendment, honored the individuals who fought tirelessly for Women's Suffrage and recognized the women who have gone on to serve in public office. The City of Rolling Hills Estates also celebrated the ongoing commitment of the Palos Verdes Peninsula League of Women Voters and others who work to create a more informed and educated electorate and advocate justice for all.

The Centennial Plaque, which will be installed on City Hall grounds, was funded by the City's Pepper Tree Foundation, which supports the enhancement and development of parks, trails, and open space, community arts, ceremonial, cultural educational, entertainment and recreational events and programs in the Rolling Hills Estates community. Tax-deductible donations are appreciated anytime to the nonprofit Pepper Tree Foundation.
