Memorial Lecture of the late COSATU 2nd Deputy President Cde Violet Seboni and Winnie Madikizela-Mandela on 3April 2024 in North West.

The Congress of South African Trade Unions (COSATU) will host various events leading up to Workers' Day and the National Elections on the on the 1^st and 29^th of May respectively.

The aim of these activities are to mobilise workers to celebrate our hard earned labour rights on the 1^st of May and ensure the retention of these gains by securing the victory of our alliance partner, the African National Congress, at the ballot box on the 29^th of May.

One of these activities is a Memorial Lecture to celebrate the late COSATU 2^nd Deputy President Cde Violet Seboni and the late President of the ANC Women's League (ANC WL), Winnie Madikizela-Mandela. These stalwarts are among the many leaders who contributed to the struggle that liberated South Africans, whether in the workplace or against injustices of apartheid. The lecture will be attended by workers from the Federation's affiliated unions and leadership.

Cde Violent Seboni passed away in a car in 2009 near Ventersdorp in the North-West on her way to an ANC Women's League campaign in Mahikeng, in preparation for the national general elections that year.

The Memorial Lecture will be preceded with a walk about in Klerksdorp. Key note speakers at the Lecture will include the President of COSATU, Zingiswa Losi, as well as the President of Cde. Seboni's union, the Southern African Clothing and Textile Workers' Union (SACTWU), Susan Khumalo, and the President of the ANC WL, Sisisi Tolashe.
