The Delegation of Hong Kong, China attending the 56th Session of the Typhoon Committee

The 56th Session of United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) / World Meteorological Organization (WMO) Typhoon Committee1 was held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia from 27 February to 1 March 2024.

The WMO, ESCAP, and 12 of the 14 Members of the Typhoon Committee sent delegations, with a total of more than 90 experts in meteorology, hydrology, and disaster prevention and reduction from the Asia-Pacific region, attending the Session. The Hong Kong Observatory and the Drainage Services Department also sent experts to jointly form the delegation of Hong Kong, China to participate in this Session.

At the Session, experts reviewed achievements of the work in 2023 and discussed various future Members' activities, operational and research collaborations within the Typhoon Committee region, in an effort to strengthen cooperation among Members in tropical cyclone monitoring, forecasting and warning, as well as disaster prevention and reduction with an aim to reducing casualties and damages caused by tropical cyclones.
