Nearly 230 Allegheny Health Network Physicians Recognized as “Top Doctors” by Pittsburgh Magazine

PITTSBURGH - Nearly 230 Allegheny Health Network (AHN) physicians have been named to Pittsburgh Magazine's "Top Doctors" list for 2024.

In all, AHN's doctors accounted for more than 25 percent of all physicians named to the regional list this year. The full list of Pittsburgh's Top Doctors can be viewed here.

"AHN is home to many of the nation's foremost medical specialists, researchers and educators across every discipline, remarkable individuals who have dedicated their lives to improving health and wellness in the many communities we serve," said Donald Whiting, MD, AHN chief medical officer and president of AHN's physician organization, Allegheny Clinic. "This recognition from 'Top Doctors' is yet another powerful testimony to the outstanding care and experiences that our physicians provide every day to the many thousands of patients who turn to us in their time of need."

Pittsburgh Magazine generates its annual "Top Doctors" list through peer-reviewed surveys conducted by Castle Connolly, a New York research and information company. Each year, Castle Connolly surveys tens of thousands of practicing physicians across the country to ensure its list reflects the latest in quality care on both the national and regional levels.

Each year, Castle Connolly also recognizes "Rising Stars," early-career doctors who are emerging leaders in the medical community, as well as "Exceptional Women in Medicine," women leaders who have contributed to the advancement of medicine through clinical research, community service, and education.

This year, three AHN-affiliated physicians made the "Rising Stars" list, and eight AHN-affiliated physicians were named to the "Exceptional Women in Medicine" list. They are:

Castle Connolly evaluates several criteria when selecting "Top Doctors," including professional qualifications, education, hospital and faculty appointments, research leadership, professional reputation and disciplinary history.

Through Castle Connolly's research process, about 67,000 board-certified physicians out of 985,000 practicing doctors across the United States have been awarded 2024 "Top Doctor" status, representing less than 7 percent of the nation's physicians.
