SCO Observer Mission concludes work observing elections for Kazakhstan's Majilis and Maslikhat
On 20 March, Representatives of the SCO Observer Mission (Head of the Mission, SCO Deputy Secretary-General Grigory Logvinov, Chair of the Russian State Duma Committee on Issues of Nationalities Gennady Semigin, Senator of the Russian Federation Gennady Ordenov, Member of the Central Election Commission of the Kyrgyz Republic Uzarbek Zhylkybayev, Member of the Central Election Commission for Elections and Referendums of the Republic of Tajikistan Nosirjon Salimi, and Advisor to the SCO RATS Li Keming) took part in the final briefing for the media, where they shared the results of monitoring the elections of deputies to the Majilis of the Parliament and maslikhats in the Republic of Kazakhstan.
The mission stated that the extraordinary parliamentary elections in the Republic of Kazakhstan complied with the electoral legislation of Kazakhstan as well as its international obligations.
The mission found no violations of national laws that cast doubt on the legitimacy of the elections. The mission recognises the elections as transparent, credible and democratic.
The SCO Observer Mission expressed its gratitude to the Foreign Ministry of Kazakhstan and the Central Election Commission of Kazakhstan for their assistance in ensuring the competent activities of the SCO observers.
As part of the Mission, 18 observers were accredited: representatives of the legislative, executive bodies and diplomatic missions of the SCO member states (11 members), as well as officials of the permanent bodies of the SCO: the Secretariat and RATS (seven members). In total, 12 international organisations were accredited for the elections.
As part of the monitoring effort, the mission visited 30 polling stations in Astana and Akmola Region.
