Food arrangements made following minor fire at the Steve Biko building

Dear students and colleagues

On the morning of Saturday, 17 February 2024, the University of Cape Town (UCT) suffered a minor fire that impacted two vendors in the food court in the Steve Biko Students' Union building, alongside Cissy Gool Plaza on upper campus.

As a result of the damage, these vendors' outlets will be closed for repairs from Monday, 19 February 2024. Properties and Services hopes to complete repairs as soon as possible.

In the interim, at least two food trucks will be set up on the plaza, to ensure adequate access to food for students and staff on upper campus. Students and staff are reminded that they can also use the outlets in the Chris Hani building.

UCT will monitor the provisioning of food on Monday and make adjustments if needed to ensure the impact is minimal.
