Travelers will experience traffic impacts in high-traffic areas starting Monday, April 1. Motorists are urged to plan ahead, allow for extra time, and look for detour changes. Please slow down for everyone's safety and make the extra effort to support businesses impacted by the necessary projects. Current obstruction information is available on the City's construction webpage.

29th Ave. between Grand Blvd. and Ray St. - April 1

Beginning Monday, April 1, at 7 a.m. crews will begin two grind and overlay projects for 29th Ave. between Grand Blvd. and Ray St. This high-traffic arterial on the southside of the Lincoln Heights Shopping Center will experience delays and drivers are encouraged to use alternate routes as much as possible. These projects will improve street conditions as part of the 6-Year Streets plan.

What to Expect:

  • Travel will be reduced to one lane in each direction on 29th Ave. between Grand Blvd. and Ray St. 24 hours per day beginning Monday morning, April 1, at 7 a.m.
  • Work is expected to be completed in August.

Marshall Rd. Water Transmission Main at Cheney-Spokane Rd. - April 1

A three-phase project is underway to enhance water and sewer infrastructure in the Cheney-Spokane Road and Marshall Road area, aiming to improve water transmission capacity and provide service to local parcels. The work involves the installation of water and sewer infrastructure to increase water supply and provide service in the area. It will construct a 30-inch water transmission main.

What to Expect:

  • Construction is along Cheney-Spokane Road from the Hwy 195 interchange to Latah Bistro. Access to businesses from the north via the Cheney-Spokane Road U.S. 195 exit will be maintained. One lane of traffic in each direction will remain open throughout this project in the business area, but some full closures to the south will be needed during the project.

As a reminder, crews began Phase 2 of the Thor-Freya corridor project last week to rebuild two intersections at Thor and 2nd Ave. and Freya and 2nd Ave. in east central Spokane. Improvements include rebuilding the intersections with concrete, replacing curb and stormwater facilities, ADA upgrades, and water and sewer replacements.

What to Expect:

  • Westbound I-90 Exit 283B Thor/Freya off-ramp is closed.
  • Westbound drivers have three rerouting options. Use Exit 286 at Broadway Ave., Exit 285 at Sprague, or Exit 283A at Altamont St.
  • Westbound 2nd Ave. is closed between Thor St. and Freya St.
  • Northbound Freya St. is open between 5th Ave. and Sprague Ave.
  • Detour is expected to be in place until mid-June.
