Community College of Philadelphia Foundation Announces Enon Tabernacle Baptist Church and Parx Casino as 2023 Black & Gold Gala Platinum Sponsors

Both sponsors have been generous supporters of College initiatives that meet student needs


PHILADELPHIA - Community College of Philadelphia Foundation has announced Enon Tabernacle Baptist Church and Parx Casino as platinum sponsors for the 2023 Black & Gold Gala. This year's gala will take place in-person at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 7, at Vie by Cescaphe, 600 N. Broad Street, Philadelphia, PA 19130. The gala is the Foundation's signature fundraising event, which has raised more than $2 million to support student scholarships since 2018.
"We are honored to have Enon Tabernacle Baptist Church as a platinum sponsor again this year, and for Parx Casino to join them in their commitment to students and the College's mission. Both organizations have been constant supporters of initiatives that help students continue their studies. Their support means students will receive needed scholarship support to achieve their educational and career goals. Changing lives through education empowers families and benefits all citizens," said College Vice President for Institutional Advancement and Foundation Executive Director Dr. Mellissia Zanjani.
Event proceeds will benefit scholarships for College students.
Each year, the Black & Gold Gala recognizes the outstanding service of individuals and organizations in the City of Philadelphia that demonstrate involvement in community growth in the areas of education, business, social services, and health. This year's honorees include:

  • Community Hero Award: Ryan Boyer, business manager, Laborer's District Council of Metropolitan Philadelphia & Vicinity and Philadelphia Building & Construction Trades Council 
  • Corporate Leadership Award: Jasmine Sessoms, senior vice president of Corporate Affairs, Hilco Redevelopment Partners 
  • Alumni Achievement Award: Gunter Pfau, founder and CEO, Stuzo 
  • Lifetime Service Award: Enon Tabernacle Baptist Church

About Parx Casino
In 2015, Ron Davis, Community Relations and DEI Officer at Parx Casino, established the Strong Men, Strong Lives Strong Futures mentoring initiative with the College's Center for Male Engagement, which included scholarships to support the CME students. In 2018, Parx extended its support of the College's students with the Community College of Philadelphia/Parx Casino Diversity & Inclusion Partnership, which provides funding for key programs at the College including Center for Male Engagement, Women's Outreach and Advocacy Center, Veterans Resource Center, Center on Disability, LGBTQ Center, and the Office of Collegiate Recovery. Parx Casino has also been a lead sponsor for the College's Black and Gold Gala since 2018.
