On January 8, CIMC Raffles, a subsidiary of CIMC Group, successfully delivered BOREAS, the world's largest and latest generation offshore wind installation vessel to Van Oord. This achievement has injected new momentum into global offshore wind power industry, and demonstrated to be the strong strength of high-end Marine equipment manufacturing of China.
The vessel is featured with world largest offshore wind installation vessel, name "BOREAS" characters as 176 meters long, and deck area over 7000 square meters, as well as accommodating 135 persons onboard, the main crane lifting capacity reaches more than 3,000 tons, and is to be equipped with 4 triangular legs. The maximum working water depth is up to 80 meters, and maximum jacking capacity is up to 55,000 tons. The vessel is capable of lifting 25 Mw WTG. Among them, key indicators such as the main dimensions, lifting capacity and jacking capacity all rank first among similar products.
At the same time, to meet the clean and environmental emissions requirements, BOREAS project is equipped with methanol storage tanks and five methanol dual-fuel main engines, which can reduce the carbon footprint of the ship by more than 78%. In addition, the project will be equipped with a selective catalytic reduction unit to minimize nitrogen oxide emissions, which can improve energy efficiency and reduce operational fuel consumption.
It is worth mentioning that during the project construction process, CIMC Raffles achieved many highlights and innovations while smoothly fulfilling the delivery goals through the formulation and implementation of measures such as process optimization, special plan management, regional management and team management.
On the one hand, this project is equipped with nearly 1 million meters of cable laying, and completed in 10 months, which is the most automated wind power installation ship so far. On the other hand, as the world's first project that truly realizes hybrid power of oil and electricity, the battery system has achieved a breakthrough in being able to fully cover the functions of one main engine for the first time. After delivery, the project will be deployed at an offshore wind project in the North of The Europe, and dedicated to the transport and installation of the next generation of offshore wind turbines and foundations.
Van Oord is a Dutch family-owned company with more than 155 years of experience as an international marine contractor. The focus is on dredging, infrastructure and offshore energy. Its head office is in Rotterdam. Van Oord employs 5,800 staff (fte), who worked in 2023 on 198 projects in 43 countries. The fleet consists of about 60 vessels and a large amount of special-purpose and auxiliary equipment. Marine ingenuity is characteristic of Van Oord. By using innovative, smart and sustainable solutions, it aims to contribute to a better world for future generations.
Currently, the global wind power industry is in a period of rapid growth. CIMC Raffles, as a leading provider of offshore engineering equipment in China, has been deeply involved in the offshore wind power field for several years and has leading advantages in offshore wind power equipment manufacturing, wind farm resource development, transportation and installation, operation and maintenance services, etc. It jointly builds a new cooperation order for offshore wind power with upstream and downstream partners in the industrial chain. Through practical actions, it promotes the realization of grid parity for offshore wind power at a faster pace and helps achieve the "3060" goal as soon as possible. CIMC Raffles seizes the opportunities, actively promotes the offshore clean energy strategy, and contributes "CIMC's strength" to fulfilling the goals of carbon peaking and carbon neutrality and facilitating the global green and low-carbon transformation.
