UT Presents Fall Semester French Film Series

"Aline," a fictionalized comedic telling of a Celine Dion-esquemegastar, is the first film in the University's series Albertine Cinémathèqueà UT: A French Film Series.

Albertine Cinémathèqueis a program of the French-American Cultural Exchange (FACE) Foundation and Villa Albertine in partnership with the French Embassy in the United States and with support of the CNC (Centre National du Cinémaet da l'Image Animée). The series is sponsored by UT's Department of Film, Animation and New Media (FMX) and the Department of Language and Linguistics.

All screenings will be held in the Charlene A. Gordon Theater inside the Ferman Center for the Arts.

"Aline" and other films in the series are free and open to the public, but tickets must be reserved. All screenings willbe held in the Charlene A. Gordon Theater in the FermanCenter for the Arts.Other films follow:

  • "L'évènement(Happening)" at 7 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 14. "Happening" isan adaptation of Annie Ernaux'snovel of the same name, looking back on her experience with abortion when it was still illegal in France in the 1960s.
  • "Benedetta" at 6 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 24. "Benedetta" is about a17th-century nun in Italy sufferingfrom disturbing religious and erotic visions.
  • Truffaut's DoinelFilms: "400 Blows" at 7 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 28. Presented in a miniature festival format, as part of the full collection of Truffaut's Antoine Doinelfilm series, the iconic New Wave film "400 Blows" followsthe early years of Antoine Doinelfalling into crime.
  • Truffaut's DoinelFilms: "Antoine Et Colette" at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 29.Inthe secondshort filmof the analog Doinelseries,Antoine Doinel isnow 17 and looking for love.
  • Truffaut's DoinelFilms: "Stolen Kisses" at 1:45 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 29. After being discharged from the army, Antoine Doinel applies for different jobs and tries to make sense of his relationships with women.
  • Truffaut's DoinelFilms: "Bed and Board" at 3:45 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 29.Antoine Doinel'swifeis pregnant, but hisnewaffair may jeopardize his marriage.
  • Truffaut's DoinelFilms: "Love on the Run" at 5:45 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 29. In the final entry of Truffaut's Doinelfilms, Doinel, now more than 30, divorced and in love with Sabine, a record seller. Colette, his teenage love, is now a lawyer who finds his first novel when they meet again in a station.
  • "Gagarine" at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 3. Thenarrative/documentary hybrid filmshowsYuri fightingto save his hometown from demolition.
  • "France" at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 9. Franceis about acelebrity journalist (LéaSeydoux) juggling her busy career and personal life, who has her life overturned by a freak car accident.
  • "Lingui, The Sacred Bonds" at 4 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 14. Bymaster African filmmaker Mahamat-Saleh Haroun, the film is aboutAmina andher daughter Maria seeking an abortion in a country where itis legally and morally condemned.
