MADISON - It's no secret that veterans may face barriers to employment upon their return to civilian life. The challenges may include resume development and job search skills as well as the translation of military experience to civilian jobs.

In Wisconsin, veterans and employers alike can find support through the nationally recognized Office of Veterans Employment Services, part of the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development.ⁱ New rankings place Wisconsin sixth in the nation for its Uniform National Threshold Entered Employment Rate (UNTEER) for Veterans and Eligible Persons.

"Veterans serve and sacrifice for our country and at DWD, we strive to ensure their skills and talents are rewarded in civilian employment," said DWD Secretary-designee Amy Pechacek. "In addition to providing service and support to veterans, our local representatives work with employers to assist with recruiting and training resources. These resources include funds for on-the-job training, subsidized transitional employment, and assistance building a diverse workforce from a broad pool of skilled candidates."

DWD's sixth place ranking is based on the U.S. Department of Labor's UNTEER standard, which measures how well eligible veterans are served by state agencies. In the program year ending June 2022, 58.7% of Wisconsin's veteran program participants went from unemployed to employed with help from DWD's Office of Veterans Employment Services.ⁱⁱ

Wisconsin's veteran employment rate of more than 75% indicates strong demand among Wisconsin's employers for veteran talent to help fill high-skill, high-wage job openings across industries.
