Partner Adam Schoen Discusses Importance of Lawyers for Startups in Podcast Interview Adam M. Schoen long arrow

Partner Adam Schoen appeared as a guest on the QuickByte podcast by think tank Disruptive Technologists to discuss his path to patent law and how lawyers can add value for startups.

During the Feb. 16 episode, Schoen said it's important for entrepreneurs who want to build foundational value in their companies to start conversations with lawyers early on.

"It's less expensive to get the advice and do it right the first time then to find out when you're in a high-leveraged situation that something needs to be fixed," he said. "Like almost everything in life, it's more expensive to unwind a mistake and then do it the correct way."

Schoen said he was a bench chemist for five years before he went to law school to become a patent lawyer.

"What I love about science is the intellectual and business side. I did not love being in a lab bench. I didn't like the lab coat and the gloves and designing experiments," he said. "But I loved hearing about new inventions and how they were going to interact in the world and how to make a company around that and how to build value and drive to ultimately something that's going to be better for the world."
