PennDOT Reduces Speed Limit for Route 219 Bridge Project

PennDOT Reduces Speed Limit for Route 219 Bridge Project

05/06/2024

Clearfield, PA - The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today that it reduced the speed limit on a stretch of the Buffalo Pittsburgh Highway (Route 219) in Lafayette Township, McKean County, to 45 miles per hour. This reduction will enhance safety through an ongoing bridge preservation work zone.

Preservation work on the Staff Sergeant Carl Enis Memorial Bridge, which spans Kinzua Creek approximately three miles south of the intersection with Route 59, started Monday, April 22. The contractor is maintaining two open lanes while completing this work. However, the contractor has reduced the width of these lanes to accommodate construction crews. PennDOT urges drivers to obey the posted speed limit in this and all work zones and always buckle up.

The contractor continues to work on a Shay Town Road (Route 4017) bridge spanning Bell Run approximately five miles south of Shinglehouse in Sharon Township, Potter County. The bridge is closed, and traffic is following a detour using Bell Run Road (Route 1009) and Route 44. PennDOT anticipates work on this bridge continuing into July. All work is weather dependent.

The Lieutenant Colonel Richard J. Berrettini Memorial Bridge, which spans the Allegheny River in Liberty Township, McKean County, also saw work as part of this project. The contractor completed work on that bridge during the 2023 construction season.

Glenn O. Hawbaker, Inc. of State College, PA, is the contractor on this $2.4 million project.
