Published on April 25, 2024

Mayor Tommy Battle invites you to put your kickstand up, strap on your helmet and join him for the 15th annual Mayor's Bike Ride and Block Party.

This year's event is Saturday, May 4, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Big Spring Park. Don't ride a bike but want to join the fun? Check out the block party, which features yard games, inflatable obstacle course, scavenger hunts, music, prizes and more. Food trucks will have concessions available for purchase.

"I'm so proud this event is now rolling into its 15th year," said Mayor Tommy Battle, an avid bicycle rider. "We hope the community will join us, whether they're part of our growing bike community or they just want to enjoy some family fun at the block party."

As part of Mayor Battle's Healthy Huntsville initiative, the family-friendly, 4-mile bike ride through downtown Huntsville promotes wellness through exercise and nutrition. The event also coincides with Bike Safety Month, highlighting the City's ongoing commitment to enhancing multimodal transportation and rider safety.

"With the beautiful weather and warmer temperatures, May is the perfect time to celebrate the pleasures and health benefits of biking," said Kevin Ready, Healthy Huntsville Coordinator. "Cycling offers a fantastic and eco-friendly way to stay active and even make some new friends."

Those who wish to ride with Mayor Battle should arrive by 10:30 a.m. for check-in and registration. Free parking is available at the VBC parking garage entrance on Church Street.

The Huntsville Police Department's Bike Unit will lead the ride. Helmets are required for all riders. Participants are encouraged to stick around after the ride and explore the block party activities and visit vendor booths.
